Tamil Rockers is a torrent website based in India which facilitates the illegal distribution of copyrighted material, including television shows, movies, music and videos. The site allows visitors to search for and download copyrighted material with the help of magnet links and torrent files, which facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing. It also operates multiple Telegram channels and groups with thousands of subscribers. Tamil Rockers is the tenth most popular torrent site in TorrentFreak's Top 10 Most Popular Torrent Sites of 2020 list. In India, ISPs have been ordered to block access to the website. The website continues operation by switching to a series of new web addresses. Aside from its traditional list of pirate sites, apps, and hosting providers, the movie industry group Motion Picture Association (MPA) lists Tamil Rockers as one of the notorious markets.
Tamil Rockers has been notorious for leaking many Indian films online, especially Tamil films, but also other languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Bangalore Days was one of the victims of Tamil Rockers' piracy, as the film was uploaded on the site within hours of its release in theatres. The film's producer Anwar Rasheed filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell against Tamil Rockers for illegally uploading the film online. He also urged the public to watch the film in theatres and not to support piracy.
Despite the piracy issue, Bangalore Days was a huge commercial success at the box office, grossing over 45 crore worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time at that time, breaking the record of Drishyam (2013). It also received critical acclaim for its screenplay, direction, performances and music. The film won three Kerala State Film Awards, two Filmfare Awards South and two Asiavision Awards among others. It was later remade in Tamil as Bangalore Naatkal (2016) with a different cast. A Hindi remake of the film, titled Yaariyan 2, will be released in theatres in 2023.
